MD-NEC, Lt Gen James Mugira honours Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany on his retirement.
A salute to Four Decades of Military Service:
Lt Gen James Mugira pays tribute to his comrade, friend and fellow soldier, *Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany, upon his honourable retirement from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Reflecting on a four-decade journey together in the Army, Lt Gen Mugira recounts their service across numerous operational areas, including the counter-insurgency campaign against the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) in Northern Uganda and the Garamba operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
He commends Lt Gen Otema’s outstanding contribution to the counter-insurgency operations in Northern Uganda and his dedicated service to the UPDF, noting that he leaves the institution stronger and better than he found it.
Lt Gen Mugira also recognises Lt. Gen Otema’s valuable contribution to the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) as a member of the NEC Board and as Chairperson of the NEC Farm Katonga Ltd Sub-Board.
In a heartfelt farewell, Lt Gen Mugira congratulates and salutes Lt Gen Charles Otema Awany for a distinguished and honourable career of service, sacrifice and leadership.
A true comrade, friend and patriot, he leaves a lasting legacy in both the UPDF and NEC.
