NEC’s Vision for Self-Sustainability: Lt. Gen. Mugira Inspects Grain Facility and Infrastructure Projects.

On July 16, 2025, Lt. Gen. James Mugira, Managing Director of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), conducted an inspection tour of the Grain Storage, Milling, and Supply Facility for NEC Agro Ltd. in Kigumba Town Council, Kiryandongo District.
 The facility, constructed by NEC Construction Works and Engineering Ltd (NEC WORKS), a subsidiary of NEC, is a significant step towards achieving national food security and self-sustainability for the defense forces.
Accompanied by Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi, Gen. Mugira was received by Eng. Simon Terwane, General Manager of NEC Agro, and Eng. Brian Buhanda, General Manager of NEC WORKS.
Eng Terwane informed Gen Mugira that the facility will improve the Ministry’s food budget, stabilize food prices, and ensure consistent prices throughout the year.
The state-owned grain handling facility will formalize grain trade in the Kigumba maize belt and contribute to achieving national grain reserves.
The facility features a Grain Processing Plant, Maize Milling Plant, and support infrastructure, including a weighbridge and powerhouse, with 6,000 metric tons of silos for safe grain storage.
Gen. Mugira was impressed with the progress of work, noting significant advancements since his last visit a year ago. He commended NEC WORKS for their commendable work and expressed satisfaction that the project was executed by an NEC subsidiary.
 Gen. Mugira congratulated NEC Agro and the technical team on this milestone, emphasizing that NEC’s involvement aimed to ensure the self-sustainability of the force and national food security.
Gen. Mugira highlighted the achievements of NEC’s intervention, including lowered food prices, improved food quality, and a guaranteed market.
Gen Mugira stressed the importance of prioritizing security of personnel, facility, and information and pledged support for the remaining infrastructure development.
Following the inspection, Gen. Mugira visited the NEC T6 Industrial and Business Park in Katuugo, Nakasongola District operated by NEC and currently NEC Works is undertaking the construction of Bio Science Facility at the Park, and later inspected road construction projects, including the  31 Km Kasana-Kasiso-Mazzi-Luwero District and 61km Kakoge-Nansaka-Wabusana roads, connecting Luwero-Nakasongola Districts.
