NEC Breaks Ground on Nationwide Screen House and Green House Project for NARO
The National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) today handed over the construction site at the National Coffee Research Institute (NACORI) in Mukono District to NEC Construction Works & Engineering Limited, a subsidiary of the National Enterprise Corporation(NEC), marking the official start of a nationwide project to construct screen houses and greenhouses at NARO research stations across the country.
The site handover ceremony, held at NACORI, brought together representatives of both institutions, with NEC Construction Works & Engineering Ltd represented by Capt. Elias Turinomuhangi and NARO represented by Violette Nakawesi.
The project will see NEC construct screen houses and green houses at key research stations nationwide, including Kachwekano (Kabale) – 2 units, Ishanyu (Mbarara) – 2 units,Kamenyamigo (Lwengo) – 3 units, and Kitunza (Mukono) – 3 units, in addition to the works commencing at NACORI.
Under the twelve-month contract, works are expected to be completed by 14th July 2027. NEC has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing local content, drawing on local labour and materials in the execution of the contract, a hallmark of the corporation’s approach to delivering national infrastructure projects.
The partnership between NEC and NARO reflects the two institutions’ shared commitment to strengthening Uganda’s agricultural research infrastructure and supporting the country’s drive toward improved crop research and food security.
