Azerbaijan Delegation Visits Luwero Defence Industries in Uganda.

On February 25, 2025, a high level delegation from the Ministry of Defence Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan led by Hon. Rustam Hasanli, Counsellor to the Minister of Defence Industry visited Luwero Defence Industrial Complex in Nakasongola District, Uganda.

The visit was a follow up of the delegation meetings held yesterday with top leadership of Uganda Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs; the UPDF and National Enterprise Corporation in which the two countries agreed to explore potential areas of collaboration and cooperation in development of local defence industries.

The Azerbaijan delegation was accompanied by Lt Gen James Mugira, Managing Director of NEC and was received by  Eng Gerald Lumu, Deputy General Manager of Luwero Industries.

The visiting delegation was briefed about the activities and operations of Luwero Industries highlighting the importance of developing defence industrial capabilities.

As part of the visit, the delegation toured the NEC-STREIT armed vehicle manufacturing plant and the PRO-HELI International Services facility for Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul, and Upgrade of Mi-Series.

The two sides agreed on areas of mutual interests for developing local defence industries paving the way for future cooperation and collaboration.

This was a reciprocal visit following an earlier visit in October 2024 to Azerbaijan by Lt Gen Mugira and demonstrates the growing cooperation between the two countries in the defence Industry sector.
