Defence & Internal Affairs Committee Inspects NEC Farm Katonga, Applauds Modern Farming Methods.
Kisozi, Gomba District – 17th September 2026 — The Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs, led by its Chairperson, Hon Rwakoojo Robina Gureme, yesterday visited NEC Farm Katonga (NFK) in Kisozi, Gomba District, as part of its ongoing field oversight.
Welcoming the delegation was Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Innocent Oula, Deputy Managing Director of the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC). He was accompanied by partners from the Egypt-Uganda Joint Model Farm Project and the Meat and Beans Processing Plant.
The Chairperson informed members that following the Committee’s engagement with the Ministry on Tuesday, 4th August 2026, and pursuant to its mandate under Rule 197 of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament, the Committee resolved to undertake field oversight visits to the Ministry, selected Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) formations, and the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC).
For NEC, the Chair said that the visits are intended to examine the status and operations of NEC and its subsidiaries, including funding, Joint Ventures, local content development under the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) policy, and community impact.
Gen. Oula thanked the Committee for its continued support to NEC in Parliament. He briefed the members on the mandates and operations of NFK, the Egypt-Uganda Joint Model Farm Project (EUJMP), and the NEC Meat and Beans Processing Plant.
In his comprehensive report, the General Manager of NFK, Mr. Frank Mwongyera, informed the Committee that NFK operates two farms – one in Kisozi, Gomba District, and another in Kyankwanzi District.
Mr. Mwongyera noted that the farm is engaged in the breeding of modern beef breeds and is currently focusing on artificial insemination to improve the Bonsmara, Boran, and Brahman breeds.
The Committee was later taken on a guided tour of the Meat and Beans Processing facility, the feedlots, and the mother herd.
The tour was coordinated by Mr. Ngabirano Kahirita, Undersecretary in charge of Logistics in the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, who accompanied the Committee.
The Committee applauded the management of NEC Farm Katonga for adopting modern farming methods and pledged total support.
The Chairperson was accompanied by Hon. Adome Francis Lorika, Member of Parliament for Moroto Municipality; Hon. Shamim Malende, Woman Member of Parliament for Kampala District; Dr. Eng. John Bosco Karisa, Member of Parliament for Buhweju West; and Hon. Enos K. Asiimwe, Member of Parliament for Kabula County.
Also in attendance were Dr. Ibrahim Mashaly, General Manager of the Egypt-Uganda Joint Model Farm Project, Mr. Henry Kibuuka, Chief Executive Officer of the Meat and Beans Processing Plant, and other senior officials of NEC Farm Katonga.
