Uganda Free Zones Authority hands over site to National Enterprise Corporation for the Construction of free ports zone facility

UGANDA FREE ZONES AUTHORITY HANDS OVER SITE TO NATIONAL ENTERPRISE CORPORATION FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF FREE PORTS ZONE FACILITY .
Yesterday 23rd September, 2020 Uganda Free Zones Authority (UFZA) handed over the site to National Enterprise Corporation (NEC)for the construction of the Entebbe International Airport Free Zone. It was handed over to the Managing Director- National Enterprise Corporation-Lt Gen James Mugira by the Executive Director Uganda Free Zones Authority- Mr. Hez Arinda
The scope of work include: preliminary works, production unit and external works.
Lt Gen James Mugira-Managing Director on receiving the site, thanked all that turned up to witness the important occasion of handing over of the construction site for Free Ports Zone Facility.
He informed the stakeholders that today’s occasion was a result of various engagements which NEC has had with UFZA and pursuant to an MoU between NEC and UFZA for the construction of Free Ports Zone Facility at Entebbe International Airport.
Under the MoU, Gen James Mugira, pledged NEC’s commitment to fulfil its obligations to the letter including execution of all the works as detailed by the consultant.
He promised UFZA that NEC will meet all the required standards both qualitatively and quantitatively.
He thanked the leadership of UFZA for the great opportunity and for the trust and confidence in the capabilities of NEC which utilising the Engineers and other technical personnel of of UPDF which has built requisite capacity in Engineering and Construction Civil Works.
He informed UFZA that similar engagement mechanisms have been carried out and tested on other strategic projects ie MoDVA/UPDF, MAIF and recently the construction of Kiira Motors Start up facilities in Jinja Industrial and business Park. He said, this has enabled NEC to develop internal capacity with its own Engineers now being in position to undertake big infrastructure projects of all magnitude at rather a low cost,
He assured UFZA that NEC understands the significance of this project to the economy due to its catalytic role in accelerating growth drivers such as export promotion, creating foreign exchange earnings among others.
He hoped that structures to be developed will go a long way in facilitating the establishment of a fully functional Free Port Zone at the Airport.
He appreciated the design consultants for the great designs they developed and presented to NEC and committed to implement it.
He welcomed the supervising consultants upon the assignment and duty given to them by UFZA and hopes they will add great value to the team and as they execute the project.
To CAA, he pledged to fulfil all the necessary requirements to facilitate a safe working environment for the workers and works without disrupting CAA’s routine duties.
He thanked UFZA for offering us yet another opportunity where the Military is continuing to expose the potential in national infrastructure development.

The Executive Director -Uganda Free Zones Authority on his part underscored the importance of the project, ” on completion the project will support increased production ,quality assurance and value addition to commodities that are widely produced by the masses to improve household incomes, create employment and eliminate poverty as well as improve the value of Uganda’s exports “.
