Yesterday, 19th November 2025, Lt Gen James Mugira, the Managing Director of National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), paid a visit to NEC Farm Kyankwanzi, as part of his ongoing tour of NEC Subsidiaries and Joint Ventures.
Gen Mugira was warmly received by Col (Rtd) John Kagwisa, the General Manager of NEC Farm-Katonga and Kyankwanzi.
Gen Mugira informed the staff that his visit was aimed at following up on previous meetings and assessing progress on the ground and refocus the team on the farm’s vision, mission, and objectives, emphasizing the strategic intent of the President to position Ugandan beef on the global market.
As the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MoDVA) and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Gen Mugira stressed that NEC Farms’ beef breeding initiative is a lucrative business, not only for the farms but for the entire country, given the rising global demand for quality meat.
NEC Farm Katonga/Kyankwanzi is undertaking crossbreeding of South African Bonsmara and Boran breeds, with the aim of improving the herd through artificial insemination
He encouraged the team to work harder to transform NEC Farm Katonga/Kyankwanzi into a model farm.
Col Kagwisa, on his part, expressed gratitude to Gen Mugira for visiting the farm and briefed him on the farm’s status and operations.
