Defence and Internal Affairs Committee Conducts Oversight Visit to NEC Headquarters.
On 15th September 2026, The Committee on Defence and Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, led by Hon. Shafigah Wanyenya, Member of Parliament for Bungokho North County, who was standing in for the Vice Chairperson, Hon. Linos Ngompek, today visited the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) Headquarters to acquiant themselves on NEC operations.
The Committee exercises oversight over Parastatals and Agencies of Government under the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The delegation was received by Lt Gen James Mugira, the Managing Director of NEC and who is also a member of Parliament representing Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
In her remarks, the Chairperson stated that the visit was undertaken in fulfilment of the Committee’s oversight mandate, with a specific focus on NEC operations. She invited Gen. Mugira to present an overview of NEC’s operations and to highlight areas where the Committee could provide support.
Gen Mugira delivered a detailed presentation on NEC’s mandate, management, the role and significance of defence industries, and NEC’s contribution to Uganda’s socio-economic transformation.
Committee Members commended Gen Mugira for the comprehensive and enriching presentation, noting that they had gained valuable insights into the Corporation’s operations.
The Members further thanked Gen Mugira for transforming NEC.
Also in attendance were Maj Gen (Rtd) Innocent Oula, Deputy Managing Director of NEC, and Maj. Gen. Sabiiti Muzeyi, General Manager of Luwero Industries Limited, among other senior managers of NEC.
