Lt Gen James Mugira visits Drilling Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility Plant for the King Fisher Oil Field.
Lt Gen James Mugira, the Managing Director, National Enterprise Corporation, (NEC) on 10th January 2023 visited the ongoing construction of the Drilling Waste Treatment and Disposal Facility Plant for the King Fisher Oil Field, to check on the progress of the project.
Gen Mugira was received by Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi, the General Manager-Luwero Industries Ltd (LIL) at the site on L. Albert.
LIL is a Subsidiary of National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), the commercial arm of the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/ UPDF.
LIL has been contracted to manage waste that will be accumulated from the drilling of crude oil from the Kingfisher Oil Field run by CNOC in Kingfisher- Kikuube District.
Gen Mugira appreciated the LIL team and Engineers for the positive progress and quality work so far.
Gen Mugira was taken on a guided tour of several oil waste management facilities that will manage, treat and dispose of waste including the solid and liquid treatment plants, engineered landfills, accommodation camp, and allied services to cater to over 150 personnel. It has also set up administration facilities, a staff clinic that will also be open to the public, installed power transformers that are awaiting commissioning by UEDCL, constructed control, monitoring, and production wells plus other environmental monitoring facilities such as leachate collection, stormwater evaporation pits, road networks within the waste management facility and the construction of sophisticated modern weighbridge.
The facility employs over 100 locals and as part of Corporate Social Responsibility, Water, a Camp clinic and a football pitch shall be opened to the surrounding community.
Gen Mugira later visited Kingfisher Oil Fields and was briefed on the progress of the exploration.
The discovery and exploration of oil have boosted services like the provision of food, construction services, cargo handling, civil works, provision of earth materials like rocks, setting up of training facilities, medical services, and a produce market.
Present were: Mr. Ndyabahika Stanley, the Chief Accountant- at Luwero Industries, and Eng Agaba George, the Project Manager among others.
